Pennsylvania-Based Global Manufacturing Firm Expanding, Governor Rendell Says Respironics Investing $120 Million In Southwestern PA
HARRISBURG, Nov. 15, 2007 – The commonwealth’s economic incentives for manufacturing companies have encouraged a developer, manufacturer and distributor of products and programs that serve the global sleep and respiratory markets to expand in southwestern Pennsylvania, Governor Edward G. Rendell said today.
The Governor said Respironics Inc. will build a new manufacturing facility in the Westmoreland Business and Research Park in New Kensington and create 330 new jobs and retain 1,492 existing jobs.
“Respironics is a ‘home grown’ Pennsylvania business that became a worldwide leader in its industry,” Governor Rendell said. “Its expansion sends a clear message that Pennsylvania has the tools and resources to help established and new companies compete successfully in the global marketplace.”
Respironics’ new 165,000-square-foot facility will cost approximately $32 million and it will be built near its corporate headquarters in Murrysville.
Allen Kukovich, director of the Governor’s Southwest Regional Office, participated in the company’s ground-breaking ceremony today and presented the company with a ceremonial check representing a $1.79 million financial package from the Department of Community and Economic Development. The package includes an $800,000 opportunity grant and $990,000 in job creation tax credits.
The company worked with the Economic Growth Connection of Westmoreland County and the Westmoreland County Industrial Development Corporation to secure the funding offer.
Over the next three years, Respironics’ expansion in Pennsylvania will include capital investments of up to $120 million in land, building, machinery and other equipment.
“Respironics is thankful to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for its generous economic package,” said John L. Miclot, the company’s president and CEO. “We’re proud of our company’s history here in western Pennsylvania and we’re pleased to continue to bring jobs, growth and opportunity to the region.”
The project was coordinated through the Governor’s Action Team, economic development professionals who serve as a single point-of-contact for businesses considering locating or expanding in Pennsylvania.
There have been 24 GAT projects successfully completed in Westmoreland County since January 2003. These projects total commitments for 3,515 new jobs and 16,699 retained jobs. The commonwealth has offered more than $92 million in state assistance for these projects, which will leverage more than $617 million in additional investment.
Focusing on emerging market needs, Respironics is committed to improving outcomes for patients, clinicians and healthcare providers. It markets its products in 141 countries and employs more than 5,100 associates worldwide. To learn more about the company, visit www.respironics.com.
