Congressman Brady joins HUD Secretary at celebration of opening a new green public housing development in Philadelphia

Philadelphia, PA – November 24, 2009 – (RealEstateRama) — “The Philadelphia Housing Authority has shaped a model for green construction while also creating green jobs and breathing new life and opportunities for distressed communities,” said Congressman Brady (D., PA) as he joined HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan, Philadelphia House Authority (PHA) Executive Director Carl Greene, a host of elected officials and residents for a ribbon cutting and grand opening of Warnock Village located in the First Congressional District. The first phase of Warnock Village includes 50 rental homes for low-income families. It features energy saving features and green building techniques.

During a program, prior to the ribbon cutting, Congressman Brady along with Secretary Donovan, Senator Arlen Specter, Senator Bob Casey and Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter applauded Greene for his redevelopment vision as well as his ability to effectively administer more than $125 million in stimulus funds to rebuild neighborhoods and create jobs for Philadelphia families. To date, PHA has awarded over $100 million in stimulus funds to local contractors, which is expected to create more than 3,000 jobs.

Many of those taking part in the opening program also toured the second phase of Warnock Village, which is still under construction. It features a three-story, 45-unit apartment building for seniors, with office/retail space, a community room and an accessible green roof. The building is scheduled to open early 2010.
