Firm Names Partner For Real Estate Practice

Melville, NY - January 26, 2010 - (RealEstateRama) — Susan D. Cunningham, CPA, has been named Partner in the Tax Advisory Services and Real Estate Services groups at Marcum LLP.   She is responsible for providing a wide-scope of tax services including planning, consulting, structuring, research and compliance to large and small business owners.

Cunningham is often engaged by privately-held companies, multi-state businesses and high-net-worth individuals for advice on complex business issues.  In addition to her extensive experience working with clients in a variety of industries, Cunningham has a specialty niche for assisting real estate developers, owners and investors.  Most notably, she provides structuring, tax planning and other services for several well-known commercial real estate companies in the Philadelphia area.  Cunningham also performs consulting projects for venture capital firms and large corporations.

Since joining the Firm’s forerunner Margolis & Co. in 2005 as a tax manager, Cunningham has been given increasing levels of responsibility.  She was promoted to senior associate a year later.  As a key player in the Firm’s internal training program, Cunningham assists with the development of continuing education for professional staff and serves as a mentor to younger staff members and spearheads intensive training seminars on new and current tax laws and tax software programs for clients and staff.

Prior to joining Marcum, Cunningham was a tax manager at a regional accounting firm.  There, she developed an expertise providing retirement and employee benefit services to closely-held businesses and high-net-worth individuals.

Cunningham is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA).  Her membership with PICPA includes participation on its Relations with Schools and Colleges Committee and its Speakers Bureau.

In addition to her professional affiliations, Cunningham actively participates in business and community organizations.  She is a member of the National Association of Women Business Owners, a nonprofit organization that represents women-owned businesses.

Cunningham received a Master of Taxation degree from Villanova University and graduated from Drexel University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.  She is licensed by the state of Pennsylvania as a certified public accountant.
