Altmire Announces Housing Grants for Homeless Veterans
WASHINGTON, D.C. – April 4, 2012 – (RealEstateRama) — U.S. Congressman Jason Altmire (PA-04) today announced that the Allegheny County Housing Authority and Housing Authority of the County of Butler will receive $293,898 in grants from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing Program (HUD-VASH). The award is part of a $72.6 million grant to public housing agencies across the country to provide permanent housing to the more than 10,000 homeless veterans in America.
“Our servicemen and women should not have to worry about living on the streets when they return home from serving their country,” Congressman Altmire said. “The thought alone is unfathomable to me. These grants will provide western Pennsylvania’s veterans home at a time when so many are without. I congratulate these two housing agencies in our region and will continue to work to make sure no veteran is left without a place to call home in the future.”
The HUD-VASH program is administered by HUD, Veterans Affairs, and local housing agencies. The program combines Housing Choice Voucher rental assistance for homeless veterans with case management and clinical services provided by the VA. The Allegheny County Housing Authority will receive $217,376 in grants, and the Housing Authority of the County of Butler will receive $76,522 in grants.
