WASHINGTON, D.C. – April 20, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Today, Congressman Chaka Fattah (PA-02) announced that the Philadelphia Housing Authority (PHA) will receive $520,463 from the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to support ending veteran homelessness in the community.

The funds will ensure permanent housing assistance to homeless veterans living throughout Philadelphia. They come from the HUD-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing Program (HUD-VASH) which combines rental assistance with case management and clinical services provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

“Stable, safe, and affordable housing is the first step in returning our community’s homeless veterans to a successful and productive future. As a result of this funding I am proud that the Philadelphia Housing Authority and their many partners around the city will be able to continue to provide these critical services to our community’s veteran population,” Congressman Fattah said. “Ensuring that our nation’s veterans have the support and resources they need to find and keep affordable housing must remain one of our country’s top priorities.”

Overall, HUD and the VA announced $65 million to help more than 9,300 homeless veterans around the country. Ending veteran homelessness has remained a top priority for the Obama Administration, launching an unprecedented initiative to make sure veterans are able to obtain permanent housing and that veterans at risk of homelessness remain housed. The VA has reported that since 2010, veteran homelessness is down 33 percent.
