Shop Treasury’s unclaimed property vault from the comfort of your home

Harrisburg – January 29, 2013 – (RealEstateRama) — Pennsylvania Treasurer Rob McCord today reminded shoppers of a unique option to find the perfect gift for their Valentine – Treasury’s eBay auction for unclaimed property at www.patreasury.gov. There, shoppers can bid on new items like diamond cluster and solitaire rings; gold necklaces, bracelets and pins; and heart-shaped pendants and earrings.

“We have loaded up our eBay auction with attractive gift options just in time for Valentine’s Day, including a diamond tennis bracelet, a pearl necklace and a set of gold cufflinks with star sapphires,” Treasurer McCord said. “Our unclaimed property auction is a convenient, secure alternative to browsing the mall – your purchases come straight from Treasury’s vault to your front door.”

Visit www.patreasury.gov and drop down the “Unclaimed Property” tab to shop the eBay store.

Pennsylvania was the first state to have a continuous eBay unclaimed property auction. Each year, Treasury receives millions of dollars in unclaimed property – things such as abandoned bank accounts, forgotten stocks, uncashed checks, and contents of safe deposit boxes. The tangible property items – jewelry, collectible coins, and medals – are kept in Treasury’s vault. If attempts to locate the owner prove unsuccessful, the items are auctioned on eBay. Proceeds of the auction are then maintained for the owner to claim.

To date, Treasury’s eBay auction site has generated more than $4.7 million in sales for the Commonwealth since it went live in 2001.

Treasurer McCord also encouraged Pennsylvanians who shop the eBay store to search Treasury’s free, searchable database at www.patreasury.gov to see whether they or their loved ones are owed unclaimed property.

“Treasury’s Return Team is currently seeking the rightful owners of $1.9 billion in unclaimed property, and we estimate that one in 10 Pennsylvanians is owed some of it,” Treasurer McCord said. “Check www.patreasury.gov to see if your Valentine has money waiting to be claimed. It may be one of the few times that ‘re-gifting’ won’t put you in the doghouse.”
