Governor Corbett Announces Grant Award to Help Cumberland County Residents with Permanent Physical Disabilities Remain in Homes
WASHINGTON, D.C. – May 29, 2014 – (RealEstateRama) — Governor Tom Corbett today announced that the Department of Community and Economic Development awarded the Cumberland County Housing and Redevelopment Authorities a $132,000 Keystone Communities Accessible Housing grant that will help county residents living with permanent physical disabilities make necessary modifications to remain in their homes.
“My administration will continue to provide support to help individuals with physical disabilities remain in their homes safely and maintain a high quality of life,” said Corbett.
The Keystone Communities grant will provide funding to support a county-wide Accessible Housing Program in Cumberland County to assist homeowners with permanent physical disabilities who wish to make adaptive modifications to their home.
“Cumberland County continuously prioritizes activities that support accessibility improvements for the homes of our neediest populations,” said Ben Laudermilch, Executive Director, Cumberland County Housing and Redevelopment Authorities. “The availability of the Keystone Communities grant ensures that persons with disabilities can modify their home to meet their individual needs, providing them with a comfortable, accessible living space that allows them to live independently and with dignity.”
In conjunction with the Cumberland County Owner Occupied Housing Rehabilitation Program, it is expected that 10 low-and-moderate-income households will receive assistance to make accessibility improvements to their home.
The Keystone Communities Accessible Housing Program’s goals are to expand individuals’ living options, promote health and safety, and increase their ability to function effectively and more independently in their home.
