PA Treasurer Rob McCord: Santa and Rudolph Have Unclaimed Property This Holiday – 1 in 10 Chance Pennsylvanians Might, Too!

Treasury currently seeking the owners of $2.2 billion; search today at patreasury.gov

Harrisburg – December 20, 2013 – (RealEstateRama) — ‘Tis the season to be jolly, but for Jack Frost of Reading and Mary Jane Santa of Allentown, it could also be the season to put their money back in their wallets, State Treasurer Rob McCord announced today as he showcased a list of seasonal and holiday-themed names from Treasury’s unclaimed property database.

“Our unclaimed property database is especially festive – filled with ‘Bells,’ ‘Carols,’ ‘Gifts,’ and ‘Stockings’ – all part of the $2.2 billion we are working to return,” Treasurer McCord said. “So when you are making your list and checking it twice, don’t forget to search www.patreasury.gov to find out if you are one of the one in 10 Pennsylvanians who has unclaimed property waiting for them.”

Treasurer McCord encouraged Pennsylvanians who recognize a name on this list to call Treasury’s Return Team at 1-800-222-2046. Anyone can search for unclaimed property and initiate a claim online via Treasury’s database at www.patreasury.gov.

“It’s not just individuals that can have unclaimed property,” Treasurer McCord said. “We are also holding unclaimed property for many organizations and businesses, like E.L.F. Entertainment in Gibsonia and Star 92.1 FM radio station in Greencastle.”

Each year, Treasury receives millions of dollars in unclaimed property – money from items such as abandoned bank accounts, forgotten stocks, uncashed checks, and contents of safe deposit boxes. Treasury is currently seeking the owners of $2.2 billion in unclaimed property, all of which is searchable via www.patreasury.gov.

Since January 2009, the McCord Treasury has collected more than $1.1 billion in property, returned more than $510 million to rightful owners, and generated about $615 million for the state’s General Fund through the Unclaimed Property Program.
