Perry Joins Farmers, Builders and Small-Business Owners to Raise Concern Over New Regulation

York, PA  – May 12, 2014 – (RealEstateRama) — U.S. Rep. Scott Perry will be joined by local job creators to highlight concerns regarding a proposal by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that could dramatically expand the government’s authority to regulate ponds, ditches, and other wet areas. Currently the EPA has jurisdiction over “navigable waters”.  This EPA proposal could extend its authority to include man-made ditches, farm ponds, irrigation streams and even areas that collect water for a few days a year.

The groups represented at the news conference, including small business, farmers, builders and property owners, believe this regulatory over-reach will create more government red tape and weaken the Pennsylvania economy.  Many channels, ditches and ponds are already regulated under state and local laws.
