Philadelphia, PA – October 22, 2013 – (RealEstateRama) — The Philadelphia Housing Authority (PHA) continues to receive recognition as a stand out development leader among U.S. Housing Authorities. The most recent received award recognition from several industry organizations showcases four PHA developments.

The National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO) gave PHA an “Outstanding Achievement” award for its green development at Paschall Village. This development in southwest Philadelphia features the use of green technology that lowers energy costs by one-third and contributes to the City’s plan to reduce its carbon footprint and sewer runoff.
Paschall Village also addresses indoor air quality health issues with the materials used to build the site. The redevelopment of the site created more open space, a sense of community, and improved safety.
The Apartment Association of Greater Philadelphia (AAGP) recognized Mantua Square, Plymouth Hall and Paschall Village with their “Best In Apartment Living Awards.”
Mantua Square, Paschall Village, and Plymouth Hall were honored in the Community Presentation category, which includes curb appeal, landscaping, cleanliness, lighting, model apartment, signage, and the leasing office. Mantua received honorable mention, Plymouth finished in second place, and Paschall finished third in this category.
Plymouth Hall also received a second place trophy for Maintenance Excellence, where the judges consider the overall level of care for the community, including maintenance staff, maintenance shop, level of cleaning care, and the effectiveness of maintenance contractors.
“It’s a great feeling to know that people in your business believe that you are producing a first-class, state of the art product,” said Kelvin Jeremiah, PHA President and Chief Executive Officer. “This agency has shown time and again that it will go the extra mile to produce quality affordable housing and do it in a cost effective manner.”
PHA was also awarded a Certificate of Achievement from the Pennsylvania Association of Housing and Redevelopment Agencies (PAHRA) for its LEED Gold development, Norris Apartments.
The LEED Gold development meets requirements covering eight key areas of environment and human health, while cutting energy costs dramatically, and reducing storm water runoff that is a source of pollution. The site is transit oriented with an on-site park for residents and all building materials were local, recycled, or lumber certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, to reduce the carbon footprint and waste.
