DCED Approves $6.6 Million in Community Development Block Grants for Projects in Nine Counties

Harrisburg, PA – February 3, 2016 – (RealEstateRama) — Department of Community and Economic Development Secretary Dennis Davin today announced the approval of $6.6 million in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding for projects in Centre, Clinton, Forest, Fulton, Huntingdon, McKean, Northumberland, Perry, and Potter counties.

“It’s important for the commonwealth to continue to play a more strategic role in local government and municipal interaction by guiding investments to the infrastructure of our communities to support the influx of jobs that pay for Pennsylvanians,” Davin said. “The funding announced today will sustain these efforts and enable our communities to effectively address local community development needs and improve the lives of the residents.”

The following municipalities were recently awarded funding through the CDBG program:

  • $750,000 to be used in the City of Bradford, McKean County to address the deteriorated curbs and sidewalks, and lack of street lighting.
  • $695,700 in be used in the Village of Rebersburg, Centre County for waterline replacement along East Main Street.
  • $750,000 to be used in Renovo Borough, Clinton County for Ontario Avenue reconstruction.
  • $266,000 to be used in Hickory Township, Forest County for a wastewater treatment system.
  • $750,000 to be used in Wells Township, Fulton County for a new well and water mains.
  • $1,306,000 to be used for two projects in Huntington County, including a new water storage tank and looping the existing distribution system for the Mapleton Municipal Water Authority, and water and system improvements for the Wood, Broad Top Well Joint Municipal Authority.
  • $750,000 to be used in Sunbury, Northumberland County for water and sewer improvements.
  • $750,000 to be used in Duncannon, Perry County for upgrades to the water distribution system.
  • $638,000 to be used in Potter County for major upgrades to the Genesee Township public water system to provide safe water and meet water storage requirements.

The Community Development Block Grant program is federally funded and provides funding for the smaller communities and rural areas of the commonwealth for community development including but not limited to housing rehabilitation, public services, community facilities, infrastructure improvement, development, and planning.
