City To Celebrate Penguins Home Opener With Stanley Cup Trophy Display, Charity Jersey Raffle, Black & Gold Day
PITTSBURGH, PA – October 13, 2016 – (RealEstateRama) — Mayor William Peduto and the Pittsburgh Penguins today announced that an NHL trophy display, featuring the Stanley Cup, Prince of Wales, Conn Smythe and General Manager of Year trophies, will be on display for public view on the City-County Building Portico (414 Grant Street, Pgh PA 15219) from Noon-5:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 13, 2016, prior to the Penguins home opener at PPG Paints Arena Thursday evening.
Fans will have the opportunity to line up to take their own photo with the Stanley Cup and other trophies. Lines can begin to form at 9:00 a.m. A photographer will not be provided.
Mayor Peduto has also announced that a special online raffle of an authentic Sidney Crosby autographed jersey will take place Thursday starting at 9:00 a.m.
“It is an honor to host this remarkable championship trophy display at the City-County Building for Penguins fans to enjoy,” said Mayor William Peduto. “This is the perfect way to cap off the ‘Summer with Stanley’ and celebrate the Penguins as they begin the 2016-17 NHL season. It’s a Great Black & Gold Day for Hockey!”
Fans are encouraged to celebrate “A Great Black & Gold Day for Hockey” on Thursday by wearing Penguins or black and gold apparel.
“Thursday will be a very special day for the Penguins and our fans as we open the season,” said David Morehouse, president and CEO of the Penguins. “We want to thank Mayor Peduto and his staff for giving fans the chance to see the Stanley Cup at the City-County Building during the afternoon.”
During the 2016 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs Mayor William Peduto made a friendly wager with San José Mayor Sam Liccardo ahead of the NHL Stanley Cup Final series between the Pittsburgh Penguins and San Jose Sharks. The bet: The losing Mayor would make a donation to the winning Mayor’s charity of choice and take a photo (to be posted on social media) wearing the captain jersey of the Stanley Cup Championship team the day following the final game of the series. Following the series, the jersey was to be raffled off with proceeds going to the winning Mayor’s charity of choice.
Mayor Peduto is thrilled to kick off the 2016-17 season by partnering with the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation to raffle off this one of a kind Sidney Crosby autographed jersey. Proceeds from the raffle will be split between the Hill House Association and the Veterans Leadership Program of Western Pennsylvania.
Raffle tickets are $20.00 each and only 2,500 tickets will be sold. One ticket per customer. Fans can register for the raffle at bidpal.net/peduto starting at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 13. The winning raffle ticket will be drawn by 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, October, 13, 2016.
