Pennsylvania Realtors Weigh In on ROAD to Housing Act at Poconos Roundtable
Rep. Robert P. Bresnahan, Jr. (R-PA) met with realtors, developers, educators and community leaders in Tannersville, Pennsylvania, to discuss housing priorities in Northeastern Pennsylvania. The group focused on the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, which became law earlier this year.
Participants discussed expanding housing supply, streamlining zoning and permitting barriers, encouraging new development, and making better use of existing buildings and public land. Attendees included representatives of the Pennsylvania Association of Realtors, local Realtor boards, PS Bank, Empire Development Group and Pocono United Way.
Bresnahan described the law as taking a comprehensive approach. According to his office, it:
- increases housing supply and streamlines zoning and permitting;
- expands affordable housing construction;
- supports critical repairs for homeowners;
- strengthens rental assistance programs.
The law also restricts institutional investors that own 350 or more single-family homes from purchasing additional newly built single-family homes. Bresnahan said the goal is to give families a fair chance to compete for homeownership.
Why it matters
The cap on large investors’ purchases of newly built single-family homes could affect competition in new-construction markets. Buyers, builders and agents may want to watch how the law’s other provisions are implemented locally.
