Rep. Summer Lee Honored for Housing Work; Office Details Funding and Bills

-

Rep. Summer Lee (D-PA) received the Federal Housing Equity Award from Regional Housing Legal Services (RHLS) at the organization’s annual awards reception in Downtown Pittsburgh on October 8, 2026. RHLS recognized her work on affordable housing and tenant protections and on federal housing investment in Western Pennsylvania.

Lee’s office said she has secured federal funding through Community Project Funding, including $3 million for affordable housing projects across Allegheny County and $1 million to help convert underused office buildings in Downtown Pittsburgh into housing.

Her office also highlighted her role in advancing the bipartisan 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act. According to the office, the law includes provisions that:

  • limit additional single-family home purchases by large institutional investors;
  • support home repairs and housing preservation;
  • improve small-dollar mortgage access;
  • strengthen protections for homeowners challenging inaccurate appraisals.

Lee has introduced the Eviction Right to Counsel Act, which would help guarantee legal representation for low-income tenants facing eviction. She also helped reintroduce the Stop Wall Street Landlords Act, which aims to end federal tax advantages that help large institutional investors buy single-family homes.

Why it matters

The summary shows which federal funding and housing proposals are in play in the Pittsburgh area. The eviction and investor bills are proposals and have not become law.
