DUNMORE, Pa. – June 3, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Fidelity Deposit & Discount Bank was presented today with the prestigious FHLBank Pittsburgh Pillars of the Community Award in recognition of the bank’s commitment to community revitalization. The Pillars award is FHLBank’s highest organizational honor and is presented annually to select FHLBank members.

Fidelity received the award at one of FHLBank’s regional member golf outings. John Bendel, FHLBank director of community investment, spoke at the event about the bank’s community achievements. Timothy O’Brien, Fidelity’s senior executive vice president and chief commercial banking officer, accepted the award on behalf of the bank.

As part of the award, FHLBank also presented a $1,000 check on Fidelity’s behalf to NeighborWorks® Northeastern Pennsylvania, which works to improve the financial stability of families throughout the City of Scranton, Lackawanna County and northeastern Pennsylvania through providing meaningful and effective homeownership services.

An active member of the FHLBank cooperative, Fidelity has taken advantage of the Banking On Business program, channeling over $112,000 in 2014, and more than $2.5 million since the inception of the program, to help small businesses in its footprint. The bank is also an active user of the First Front Door program, which provides down payment and closing cost assistance to qualified first-time homebuyers.

“Fidelity shows that it’s dedicated to improving communities every day by actively supporting local businesses and helping first-time homebuyers achieve the dream of owning a home,” said Winthrop Watson, FHLBank’s president and CEO. “We are proud to have an organization like Fidelity as part of our membership.”
